This exercise, carried out before the official forum began, was inspired by ISW’s Celebration of Lakes and Rivers project and SWE’s Youth Parliaments for Water. Its objective was to enable young people to share experiences of international citizenship and cooperation and water management. This meeting brought together 23 young people, including 14 Turks, three Canadians, one El Salvadorian (representing the Central American region), one French woman, one Belgian, one person from Benin and two from Moldavia. After three days of meetings and workshops in Kilyos, a final declaration was voted upon and unanimously approved on 15 March. Furthermore, it was agreed with the different Turkish organisations that water-related projects would be undertaken in different regions of Turkey. Solidarity Water Europe, which is organising the 9th Youth Parliament for Water to be held in Nizhni Novogorod in Russia in October 2009 with the theme of «River treasures», invited a Turkish delegation to take part in the event. |
